School Meals
At lunchtime, a school meal consists of a choice of a meat or vegetarian hot meal and a dessert.
This costs £2.45 per day, £12.25 per week for KS2 children.
All Reception and KS1 children (Year 1 and Year 2) are able to have a school meal 5 days a week free of charge, under the new Universal School Meal programme.
Meals need to be paid for in advance either by logging onto www.schoolmoney.co.uk or by sending the payment into the school office. Children who do not wish to have a school meal may bring in a healthy packed lunch from home.
At playtimes (10.45am-11.00am), KS1 children are offered a piece of fresh fruit or vegetables. KS2 children are encouraged to bring in their own healthy snack. We are a NUT FREE school.
As part of our healthy schools’ award pledge we encourage our pupils to eat fruit and healthy snacks at playtime, and to drink water throughout the day. We ask that parents promote this by providing their children with such snacks for break times. We strongly discourage children bringing in sweets, crisps, chocolate bars and juice.
The school uses the Local Authority school meals service and the food is cooked at Oakthorpe Primary to a very high standard. The menu is on a three week rota and children can order their meal choice on the day. Their website can be found at www.schoolfoodsupportservice.co.uk
School milk is also now available to purchase. Click here for details. School milk is free for under 5s but you must register at Cool Milk.
