Vision & Values Statement

‘Climbing to New Heights Together’
Matthew 5: 1-2

At Sir John Moore C.E. Primary School, we believe in the holistic development of each child through the Head, Heart and Hands. Inspired by the teachings of Jesus, we aim to create a school community where everyone—pupils, staff, and families—are "Climbing to New Heights Together" through our character values of GRIT (Growth Mindset, Resilience, Independence, and Teamwork).

Our Christian Values

HEAD (Knowledge and Wisdom)

We nurture a love for learning, helping pupils develop wisdom through reflection and academic exploration, as well as through deepening their understanding of God’s teachings. Jesus’ growth in wisdom is our model, and we encourage pupils to seek both academic and spiritual growth with an open mind.

The Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30)

HEART (Character and Compassion)

Our school cultivates kindness, empathy, and love, focusing on developing the whole person. We follow Jesus’ command to "love one another" and, like the Good Samaritan, encourage pupils to show compassion in action. Through GRIT, pupils learn to apply these principles, growing not only in character but in resilience, independence, and teamwork.

The Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)

HANDS (Service and Action)

Faith must be put into action. As Jesus told his disciples after the story of the Good Samaritan, "Go and do likewise," we too strive to serve others, working as a community to make a positive impact. We encourage pupils to use their hands to serve and contribute, living out their faith through kindness, and teamwork, as we continue "Climbing to New Heights Together."

Our Cultural Backpack

As we are “Climbing to New Heights Together,” each pupil carries with them a cultural backpack—a collection of values, knowledge, and experiences gathered along their journey with us. This backpack represents the essentials we all need to grow into thoughtful, compassionate, safe, and active members of society, equipped to face the future with confidence and kindness.

This cultural backpack is filled with the wisdom they gain through a rich curriculum that encourages reflection and understanding. It includes lessons on British Values, woven into everyday learning, giving each pupil a strong foundation in democracy, respect, and the rule of law. Pupils explore the diverse cultures and traditions that make up our world, helping them develop empathy and a sense of shared humanity. Through daily worships, class discussions, and stories from different faiths and cultures, they learn to celebrate their own heritage and embrace others’ beliefs and perspectives.

Our cultural backpack also holds the character-building experiences that strengthen resilience and teamwork. As they participate in activities like residential excursions, visits to religious sites, the School Council, fundraising events, and community projects, pupils experience the power of service and the value of making a positive impact. This hands-on learning teaches them the importance of taking action, supporting one another, and working towards shared goals, enriching their understanding of what it means to be part of a community.

By the time they leave Sir John Moore C.E. Primary School, each pupil’s cultural backpack is filled with the knowledge, character, and skills they need to navigate new challenges and embrace future opportunities. This shared journey of learning and growing together ensures that every child is equipped to carry forward the values that define our school, ready  with their head, heart and hands to climb to new heights in the world beyond.
